A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a frontline caregiver who supports patients with everyday needs and
basic clinical tasks while working under the direction of licensed nursing staff.
Key responsibilities
- Help patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, eating, and moving safely around their environment.
- Measure and record basic health information, including vital signs and observations about comfort, appearance, and behavior, and share concerns with the nurse.
- Assist with safe transfers and positioning in beds, chairs, and wheelchairs, using proper techniques to protect both patient and self.
- Keep patient areas tidy and safe by changing linens, organizing personal items, and following hygiene and infection-control practices.
- Support mealtimes by delivering trays, assisting with feeding when needed, and noting how much the patient eats and drinks.
- Offer emotional support and companionship, respond promptly to call lights, and help patients feel heard and respected.
- Accurately note care activities in assigned documentation tools and collaborate with nurses and other team members to maintain consistent, patient-centered care.
